The checkout moment
The business rings up your order on their Tavvi register. From your side it's three small beats: maybe a tip choice, then payment, then a receipt that doesn't need to be paper. Here's each one without the mystery.
The tip screen, decoded
At food, drink, and service businesses you'll often see tip presets, percentage buttons like 15%, 18%, 20%, 25%, and usually Custom for a dollar amount (Custom Amount), with the New Total shown before anything is charged. Some screens also carry an explicit No Tip button.
Two honest facts to relax about: nothing is forced, a tip left unpicked simply isn't charged, and tips go to the staff, excluded from any later refund. Tip like you would anywhere; skip like a grown-up when it's not that kind of purchase. The screen genuinely doesn't mind.
Ways to pay
- Tap your card or phone. Many Tavvi businesses take contactless right on their iPhone with Tap to Pay on iPhone, no extra machine, same tap as anywhere.
- A card reader at the counter, for the classic dip/tap/swipe.
- Cash, still money.
Got a coupon? It's a QR code
Coupons you've earned live in My Coupons in your app. At the counter, open the coupon, Show this QR code to a team member, and they scan it before you pay. The discount lands on the order, and the scan also connects the purchase to YOUR account, so the points from this order land where they belong.
Skip the paper
Receipts can reach you by text or email, give your number or address once and it's on your phone before you've pocketed your card. If you're on the business's books already, it just works.
Why online orders never ask for a tip
Order through a business's page and you'll notice: no tip screen. That's by design, the total you see at online checkout is the total you pay. Tipping is a counter moment, not a web form.
If something's off
- Picked the wrong tip preset. Say so before the charge, the business can tap a different preset or a custom amount. Nothing's final until the payment runs.
- Coupon QR won't scan. Brightness up, glare down, hold steady. Still nothing? Have them add you to the sale by phone number, your points still land, and the coupon stays saved for next time.
- No receipt arrived. Check the number or email you gave for typos, and your spam folder for email. The business can resend it from the sale.
